Beach clean up relieves shores of rubbish [PHOTOS]

Locals donned caps and sunscreen to brave the scorching Saturday morning heat.

THE call to clean up the world was heeded globally and locally, the South Durban community was no different.

Armed with yellow refuse plastic bags, residents gathered on the shores of Treasure Beach on Saturday morning, 21 September, to make their mark for the International Coastal Cleanup.

According to oceanconservancy.org, the day of the global clean up began over 30 years ago when likeminded communities rallied to free oceans of rubbish.

Key players in the local cleanup included Supa Mama, the Wildlife and Environment Society South Africa, the Department of Environmental Affairs, KZN Emergency Services, Engen and Wentworth’s Blue Roof Life Space.
