Abigail enjoys swinging success

Some of her most prized achievements include securing second place at the 2017 Little Linksters Best World Pee Wee Golf Swing competition for U4s.

ALWAYS ready with a winning swing is young Abigail Thambiran, 7, from the Bluff. She recently competed at the Junior African Challenge 2019 where she scored her personal best score of 38 and won second place for the U7 girl’s division.

South Africa’s leading junior golfers and visitors from nine countries put their talent on display at the end of August during the inaugural Junior Africa Challenge at San Lameer Golf Estate. The event attracted the top children golfers from 52 countries. The age groups for the tournament were for boys U6 to u18 and girls U7 to Girls U18. This is was also a qualifier for next year’s Kids Golf World Championships Malaysia. At the first day of the tournament, Abigail followed the leader in her age group by 3 shots, on the second day she led the group by 3 shots. 3rd day was the decider. At the end of the gruelling tournament, she received second place for the U7 girl’s division.

Abigail enjoys competing and making friends at golf tournaments. She was first introduced to the sport by her dad, Sean at the age of three years. Some of her most prized achievements include securing second place at the 2017 Little Linksters Best World Pee Wee Golf Swing competition for U4s. She further levelled-up and came first as an U6 at the same international competition in 2018. Abigail has also won the Junior African Challenge for the U7 girl’s division. “I’d like to thank the Bluff National Park and her coach Lionel Wearne for always supporting me,” added Abigail who has also received support from her family, friends, community and sponsors; 2CanaSolutions, ReveGolfShafts, VolvikSA, ToregeEyeWear And the Bluff ProShop in her blossoming golf career.

The promising golfer said she draws inspiration from Brooks Koepna who is an American professional golfer. Abigail will continue to play at the monthly SA Kids Golf tournaments while preparing for an upcoming tournament at Umhlali Country Club soon. Her next exciting big break will be travelling to compete at the Kids Golf World Championships in Malaysia taking place next year in December.
