10 reasons to consume more carrots

Who knew these crunchy, brightly coloured vegetables could have the benefits they do?

While we are all familiar with carrots, many of us aren’t fond of them but many are. Here are 10 reasons Care2 has given to eat more of these sweet, crunchy vegetables.

1. Beta carotene: Carrots are a rich source of this antioxidant. Beta carotene is great in the way that it can be converted into vitamin A in the body to help maintain a healthy skin.

2. Digestion: Carrots have been said to increase saliva and supply essential minerals, vitamins and enzymes that help digestion.

3. Alkaline elements: These veggies are high in alkaline elements, which are said to purify and revitalise the blood while also balancing the acid/alkaline ratio of the body.

4. Potassium: These crunchy guys are a marvelous source of potassium, which can help maintain healthy sodium levels in the body, thereby reducing high blood pressure.

6. Wounds: Raw or grated carrots are a wonder and can be used to help heal wounds, cuts and inflammation.

7. Phytonutrients: Among the many beneficial phytochemicals that carrots contain, a phytonutrient called ‘falcarinol’ reduces the risk of colon cancer and promotes overall colon health.
