Don’t miss BirdLife Port Natal’s 70th anniversary on FRIDAY, 6 SEPTEMBER.
Birdlife Port Natal was established in Durban in 1949 as the Natal Bird Club and as such is one of the oldest bird clubs in Africa. As an affiliate club Birdlife Port Natal, shares the goals of BLSA as they relate to conservation of birds and habitats within KZN and therefore the club plays an important role in conservation, as well as influencing various aspects of birding in KZN and southern Africa. The clubs geographical area covers the boundaries of the eThekwini Municpality on the subtropical east coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. It is an area rich in bird diversity with 520 species occurring in an area stretching for 90kms along the coastline and stretching inland to the foothills of the Drakensberg.
At the club’s 70th anniversary dinner, David Allen will do a seabird presentation at Point Yacht Club. Enjoy a light Mediterranean meal at R80 per person. Book by emailing BLPN.members@gmail.com.

SATURDAY, 7 SEPTEMBER: BirdLife Port Natal hosts an outing to Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve from 7am. With over 200 bird species, this reserve is a great venue. Bring picnic and chairs, and there is an entrance fee. For further information, call Terry Walls on 082-871-6260.
MONDAY, 9 SEPTEMBER: Yellowwood Conservancy meets on the second Monday of every month at 5.45pm at the boma site, Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve and have a bring and braai after the meeting. Free entrance to the reserve on that day for the meeting. All who are interested in conservation and the environment are welcome.
WEDNESDAY, 11 SEPTEMBER: eThekwini Municipality launches its high impact social intervention programme, Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS) at Bluff National Park Golf Club, 100 Club Drive on Wednesday, 11 September. The initiative seeks to bring government and community stakeholders of ward 66 together for the development and greater good of the community.

THURSDAY, 12 SEPTEMBER: The South African Military History Society holds its monthly meeting at Murray Theatre, first floor, civil engineering building, UKZN Howard College campus at 7pm for 7.30pm. The first talk, the DDH, will be ‘victory ships, the legacy of WW2’, to be presented by Roy Bowman. The main talk will be presented by Robin Smith, who will tell the KZN branch about ‘Lawrence of Arabia, his later life’. Entrance is free and visitors are welcome. Guest speaker, Gordon Michael will speak about ‘once upon a time in Durban’. This presentation will showcase in-depth knowledge of the early days of Durban and the early settlers. There is no charge.
