Road name blunders raise concerns

According to ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter, these blunders seem to occur often.

OOPS! They did it again, another misspelled road name, this time it is in Woodlands.

If you’re like me and use Google Maps, chances are, the all-knowing search engine will not show you where Artherstone Place is because there is no Artherstone Place… well, not in Montclair, anyway. Or at the very least, not where the road name is placed. Somebody must have missed their morning coffee that day!

The actual road name should be Atherstone Place. What’s that? It’s only just an extra ‘r’, right? But think of the confusion this has created and according to ward 64 councillor, Gavin Hegter’s, comment these blunders seem to occur more often than mosquito bites in summer.

“Unfortunately, this is becoming a common problem, I have reported it to eThekwini Transport Authority. We have had Tern Way renamed to Ten Way and The GROVE changed to THE Grove. Residents are encouraged to use eServices to use the ProActive Citizen app to report faults,” said Gavin.

And before you crucify me, I get it. With QWERTY keyboards, blunders do happen, but you’d think there’d be someone double, scratch that, triple fact-checking before going to print. Maybe there’s something to learn from distilleries, maybe triple or ten times filtering is really the way to go.

Spokesperson for eThekwini Municipality, Msawakhe Mayisela, said that the relevant department is investigating and if the name is misspelled, it will be rectified soon.
