Help desperate Woodhaven couple find missing cat

"...We don’t have children so this is our child. Billy is my son and a part of my family. I am even considering leaving my job to search full on for him," said Sameera Seedat, mother to Billy the cat.

WORRIED sick, dazed and confused are the probable shared mutual feelings of a missing pet and its owners. Sameera Seedat and her husband, Samir Rehman, from Teal Close in Woodhaven said the past two weeks have been a dreadful experience for them without their beloved tabby cat named, Billy. The six-month-old ginger and beige cat was last seen on Sunday, 25 August at 8am.

“My husband and I have been searching day in and day out since Billy went missing. We have had no sleep and haven’t even been able to eat or work properly. We are extremely traumatised and am willing to pay anything and everything I can to get my boy back,” Sameera said.

To make their dire situation worse, the neighbour she strongly believes kidnapped her cat is unwilling to cooperate. Billy was trapped in his yard the morning before he went missing. “I was on my way to work when I heard Billy screaming from my neighbour’s yard. To my shock, my boy was trapped in a cage. My husband and I rushed to my neighbour to confront him and we urged him to help us get Billy out as the cage was completely locked down. He refused to open it and ignored us completely,” said Sameera who eventually got her cat out of the trap.

Billy has distinct stripes which makes it very easy to recognise him from other cats, he is thin and slender and responds to his name.

Sameera added that tracking down her cat has not been easy as some people have laughed in their faces. “They think reporting a missing cat is a joke but we don’t have children so this is our child. Billy is my son and a part of my family. I am even considering leaving my job to search full on for him,” she said.

The couple confronted their neighbour upon their cat’s disappearance and according to them, after much hassle as he continued ignoring them and eventually admitted to setting the trap up for Billy and that he had trapped him again on Sunday. “But he then claims to have released him which we know and believe is not true as he hasn’t returned. It’s already been 10 days.

Sameera expressed her gratitude to ex-policewoman, Maryna van Eck, for her efforts in finding the cat and in addition to receiving help from two cat mediums.

The accused neighbour said the matter was under police investigation and declined to give further comment.

Montclair SAPS confirmed that a case general theft was opened and that the matter was still under investigation.
