Montclair SAPS crime brief

Here's the latest crime round up from Montclair Saps for the past week.

Carjacking
On Monday, 19 August at about 9:10pm the complainant was busy at the Standard Bank ATM inside Shell garage at Roland Chapman Drive, Montclair, where he was approached by four unknown males. “One of the males pointed a firearm at him and they demanded his cash and car keys. He handed it over to them. They proceeded into his car and drove off towards southerly direction with his golf. The motor vehicle was later recovered in Umlazi and taken to the pound,” said Montclair police spokesperson, Captain Dereck Vijiam.

Carjacking
On Wednesday, 21 August, at about 8:15pm the complainant was driving a maroon Toyota Etios which served as an Uber taxi, when he received a request to pick up a client from Malvern, outside a flat in Coronation Road. “He picked up two unknown males. They informed the Uber driver they were going to Radcliffe Road in Montclair. On their arrival, one of them produced a firearm. He instructed the driver to lay down on the rear seat. One of them drove the vehicle while the other one was guarding him. They drove off to Umlazi cemetery called Zwelethu, where they put him in the boot for 30 minutes. They opened the boot and told him to run. He ran away and the suspects drove off towards Mangosuthu University of Technology,” said Vijiam. The complainant went to Umlazi SAPS where he was taken to Montclair police station. According to Vijiam, the stolen motor vehicle was fitted with a tracker, however, the suspects removed the tracker whilst he was kept in the boot.

Malicious Damage to Property
On Thursday, 15 August at noon, the complainant was sitting inside the truck outside company on South Coast Road when he was approached by three unknown males. “They asked him why he was working whilst they were on strike. He did not answer them as he was unaware of any strike. He then continued to sit in the truck whilst waiting to offload at King of Tiles, situated on South Coast road. At about 7pm the same males returned and they parked their vehicle facing a northerly direction. They alighted their vehicle and came to the truck thereafter one of them threw a petrol bomb into the horse and trailer thereafter ran away,” said Vijiam. The driver managed to jump out from the truck and ran away. The fire department was called to attend. The truck belonged to the company Reinhardt transport group. No injuries. Informers tasked.

Carjacking
On Sunday, 25 August at about 7:15 the complainant was at the robots on South Coast Road near the N2 off-ramp when she was approached by three unknown males. According to Vijiam, one of them produced a firearm which he pointed at her. He demanded her vehicle. She was shocked whilst the suspect managed to open the driver’s door. She was pushed over to the passenger seat. One of the suspects drove the vehicle back onto the N2 freeway. They drove towards the direction of Pinetown where she was dropped off. She went to Pinetown SAPS and she was then taken to Montclair SAPS. The motor vehicle fitted with car track.

Carjacking
On Tuesday, 20 August at about 9.30pm the complainant was awaiting the arrival of a friend on Alamain Avenue, Montclair, where he was approached by three unknown males. “The suspects pointed him with a firearm and demanded his car keys and his cell phone. The complainant refused to hand over to them his cell phone. They fired a single shot at him however he was not injured. They forcefully took his black VW Polo with and drove off in an unknown direction. The scene was thoroughly examined for any cartridge casing. None could be found. The area was examined again during the day,” said Vijiam.

House Robbery
On Wednesday, 21 August at about 7.18pm the complainant was watching TV in the lounge with her family at Garnet Road, Woodhaven. Both her sons together with a friend were doing the school project. They went out to fetch a table from the back of the house and came back. “Whilst they were entering the lounge they were followed by three unknown males who held them up at gunpoint. Suspects demanded a safe, money and car key. The house was ransacked. They removed a television from the bedroom. They also took three thousand rands in cash and two cell phones. Thereafter they ran away. On their way out they dropped the TV, one cell phone and wallet. Suspects ran away with white Etios with no plate,” said Vijiam. Two suspects were wearing balaclavas and gloves. Suspects assaulted a security guard who was patrolling Garnet road. He was taken to hospital due to his injuries.
