Suspect arrested with illegal firearm in domestic dispute

Police recovered a revolver with six rounds of ammunition from the suspect.

WENTWORTH police arrested a 20 year old suspect and seized a firearm on Sunday, 25 August.

 
According to provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, it is alleged that the suspect chased a woman, who ran into the police station for protection. Police recovered a revolver with six rounds of ammunition from him. When an investigation was conducted, it revealed that the firearm was stolen at Verulam in February 2017.
The suspected appeared in the Wentworth Magistrates Court on Monday, 26 August. “The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in any of the pending cases in the Wentworth police precinct and its surroundings. The suspect will also be profiled to determine if he is linked to any criminal incidents in the area,” said Mbhele.
