The event was inspired by the need to inform and educate young children about everyday safety hazards around them. The children were taught how to prevent and manage different dangerous situations by key members from Wentworth police, fire department, Hands of the Givers (HOG), Bobbi Bear, Crusade Logistics, SpillTech, EviroSure as well as Mondi.

Debra Chamier of Crusade Logistics who is very passionate of children said that many children are not taught about road safety, therefore making the event’s purpose of educating the children, very relevant. “Children are our future and we wanted the children of St Vincent’s Home to understand how they can keep safe especially in threatening situations,” she explained.

Mondi CSI manager Leonard Mbokazi shared that the company has always wanted to be part of a positive initiative that impacts local youth and that’s why they jumped on board as a sponsor for the worthy event.

Chairman of Merebank based community organisation, HOG, Ivan Moses said that they were more than happy to jump on board on to sponsor the event since they are an organisation focuses on different issues that are relevant and affect the youth in the community. “We reach out to the youth through a proactive approach by hosting weekly meetings and awareness days such as this one. We don’t want to lose another innocent life to an accident that could have been easily avoided or handled. We are very thankful to our main sponsors Mondi and Crusade Logistics for making this initiative possible,” he said. HOG also has a centre on Warangal Road where it offers counselling and aid to youth, especially those affected by substance abuse, from Monday to Friday.
