SATURDAY, 3 AUGUST - THURSDAY, 29 AUGUST

SATURDAY, 3 AUGUST: BirdLife Port Natal has an outing to Umhlanga Lagoon at 6am. Wetlands, forest and sandy shores could yield some interesting birds. Take a picnic for afterwards. For more information, call Terry Walls on 082-871-6260.

TUESDAY, 6 AUGUST: Al-Anon family group meets on Tuesdays at Bluff Methodist Church’s lower hall at 11am. This recovery support programme is for family and friends of those who abuse alcohol and drugs. Call the Al-Anon office on 031-304-1826 for information.

THURSDAY, 8 AUGUST: The South African Military History Society holds its monthly meeting at Natal Mounted Rifles head quarters, Walter Gilbert Road at 7pm for 7.30pm. The first talk, the DDH, will be ‘pattle, DFC and bar – South Africa’s World War 2 fighter ace’ to be presented by guest speaker, Brian Thomas. The main talk will be presented by Ann Samson, who will tell the KZN branch about ‘Natal at war 1914-1918’. Entrance is free and visitors are welcome. SATURDAY, 10 AUGUST: The Montlands library children’s book club meets every second Saturday of the month. All local school children are welcome to attend. For more information, call the library on 031-462-8265.

MONDAY, 12 AUGUST: Yellowwood Conservancy meets on the second Monday of every month at 5.45pm at the boma site, Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve and have a bring and braai after the meeting. Free entrance to the reserve on that day for the meeting. All who are interested in conservation and the environment are welcome.

WEDNESDAY, 14 AUGUST: BirdLife Port Natal hosts an indoor meeting at Westville Methodist Church at 7pm. Sithembiso Majoka, a field ranger from eThekweni Municipality, will give an interesting talk on birds in the reserves of the greater municipal area. A selection of bird books will be on sale by UKZN Press. For more information, call Virginia Cameron on 074-580-3341.

TUESDAY, 20 AUGUST: Montwood Senior Citizens Care Centre hosts a social meeting every Tuesday from 9am to noon at 199 Kenyon Howden Road, Tray Bang hall. A two-course lunch and refreshments are available for R25. Bingo is on the last Tuesday of each month. All seniors over 55 are welcome to join.

THURSDAY, 29 AUGUST: Yellowwood Park Women’s Institute holds its birthday party at the Yellowwood Park Bowling Club at 7pm. All members and past members are invited to join. The theme is Hawaiian.
