The call was made in the form of a motion tabled earlier today in the KZN Legislature.

DA KZN spokesperson for education, Dr Imran Keeka, said the DA is extremely concerned by these accusations. “We are led to believe that officials from the department, as well as SAPS have visited the school. In terms of the department’s role, we urge the education MEC to ensure that SAPS initiate a criminal investigation into the allegations, should there be any substance to the claims, and to ensure that the necessary corrective action is instituted without delay,” he said.

He added that while the party acknowledged that tensions were running high, learners and the community at large are cautioned that school property must always be respected and call on them to act within the law.

“The DA will continue to monitor progress in terms of this probe in a bid to ensure that teaching and learning at the school is restored as a matter of urgency,” Keeka added.
