Fire breaks out at Bluff Wetland

Fire-fighters were on site from around 11am to 8pm.

THE Bluff Wetland, located on the corner of Tara Road and Quality Street, was ravaged by a fire midday yesterday (Wednesday, 24 July)

Senior fire officials, multiple fire engines and fighter fighters attended the scene. A portion of Tara Road between Quality Street and Agelier Road had been closed due to poor visibility.

Ward 66 councillor JP Prinsloo confirmed that the houses on the border of the nature reserve were prioritised to ensure that the fire did not jeopardize any private property.

“There was no damage to private property, injuries or loss of life. Fire-fighters were on site from around 11am to 8pm to ensure that the fire was extinguished. The cause of the fire is still unknown but the fire department is conducting an investigation to provide more clarity. I must mention the amazing contribution the community made to ensure that the firefighters were looked after,” said JP.

A big thanks is extended to Grand Rapids Spur that donated 50 burgers and chips, DSES Project Solutions for donated bottled water, Sandra Pretorius and Tammi Kinkade for donating refreshments, Melissa Lee, Elmarie Bowden and Zoe Moore from the ward 66 ward committee for coordinating all the donations.
