Youth encouraged to participate in ward trials

Youth born between 1999 to 2003 are encouraged to try out.

THE ANNUAL eThekwini Games is back for this year’s installment of youth sports development. Initiated in 2017, the event is aimed at promoting sports development in the city by identifying and nurturing young talent.

The games are inclusive of all the municipality’s 110 wards with 16 sports codes of participation. The event is also the third biggest sporting event in the country after the South African Games and South African Local Government Authority (Salga) KZN Department of Sports and Recreation (DSR) Games.

The games kick off with ward tournaments, winners then advance to battle each other at district level, after which this year’s champions will be crowned at the mega tournament scheduled to take place in December. The games are also an opportunity to scout for players to represent Team eThekwini at the annual Salga Games.

Ward 66 will hold trials to identify the netball and soccer players who will represent the ward at the inter-ward games. Grosvenor, Wentworth, Treasure Beach, Brighton Beach, Ocean View, and Fynnlands form part of this ward.

Trials are scheduled for this coming weekend on Saturday, 27 July at the Bayview Sports Grounds on 11 St Patricks Road, Bluff. Registration is from 8am to 8:30am, with trials starting at 9am. Youths born between 1999 to 2003 are encouraged to try out. Bring your birth certificate or ID document for registration.
