Wentworth Angels warm hearts with Mandela Day initiative

Warm smiles beamed on the faces of the unexpecting patients when they received their delicious meal.

PATIENTS at Wentworth Hospital were treated to a hearty lunch of chicken biryani, dhal and salad by Wentworth Angels as part of their 67 minutes for Mandela initiative on Thursday, 18 July.

Warm smiles beamed on the faces of the unexpecting patients when they were handed their delicious meal while waiting in long queues.

Tracey Williams, founder of Wentworth Angels, was born and raised in the Wentworth community. Her parents would assist needy people in the community and she followed suit when she grew up. Wentworth Angels is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that has been running in the Wentworth community for seven years. The organisation provides a place of safety for families as they try to put back the pieces of their lives. The NPO currently receives no government funding and rely on the aid from sponsors.

“We try to host as many events and projects as possible especially on special days like Mandela Day, but we help where we can all the time, as inspired by the selfless struggle icon Mandela.

“Our work is mainly centred around assisting abused and abandoned children. It’s always been a passion of mine to assist people in need because I grew up in a home that valued and prioritised charity and giving back. My parents did exactly what I am doing now so you can say that it’s a value that was invested in me and has now become my passion in life,” said Tracey
