Wanderers men’s team ace Dan Draper title

This weekend saw the 71st annual Dan Draper take place at Durban Wanderers.

Although the men and women’s sections were not full, great fun was had by all. Overall winners of the weekend tournament in the men’s strength-on-strength section were Wayne Rittmuller, Paul White, Richard Hendicott and Errol Pienaar on a 10+40, with Eric Smit, Eddie Human, Chad Wilson and Dudley Dorrofield finishing second on a 7+17. The five session prizes went to the teams of Kim Hawkins 2+16, Gerhadus Beukes 2+10, Rod Smith 2+15, Robin Grobler 2+10 and Ron Davids 2+12. The monkey prize went the way of Deon Els and his side of Ryan Warren, Steve Larkin and Clint Dongan.

In the women’s round robin section, Tokkie de Kock, Lulu Bingham, Elmarie Young and Sandy Snyman won overall on a 8+47, with Lorinne Hawkins, Lindi Samuels, Gwen Clarke, Nora Gilder and Linda Meyer finishing second on a 8+12. Third place went to Fikile Vilakazi and her side of Judy Green, Mandy Atherstone and Leonora Breedt on a 6-1. The monkey prize went the way of Ann Bonthrone, Val Mccaffrey, Margaret Kitchenbrand and Chantal Hearnshaw. A special mention to Bluff Bowling Club for their continued support. The R1 000 draw was done during Sunday’s prize-giving with Maria Arnold and Brenda Baggley sharing the monies, and Jan de Wall claiming the R100 concession prize.

Thanks to Kate Vink for supplying the music and entertaining the crowd after the prize-giving, a great time was had by all. Sunday, 14 July also saw the Port Natal Pro 10 pairs continue with Steve van Rooyen and Wonkie Somtseu flying the Wanderers flag. Unfortunately, they narrowly lost in the semi finals.

Friday’s various meat pack winners were: lamb pack – Jimmy Neill, beef – Debbie Rojas, pork roast – Troy Simpkins, beef roast – Chris Fourie, chicken pack – Wayne Perkins, chicken – Clive Symons. The R500 snowball was a carry over as Robbie Price was not present. The Friday Lotto was a R555 carry over as no one guessed the correct three numbers drawn
