Ratepayer meetings are open to all [LETTER]

Meetings of the Bluff Ratepayers are advertised in the SUN and specify that all are welcome.

EDITOR – I wish to take issue with councillor Prinsloo’s claim that he has never been invited to ratepayer meetings, headlined ‘Kingfisher Creek Wetland Park remains still in ruins’ dated 5 July.

Meetings of the Bluff Ratepayers are advertised in the SUN and specify that all are welcome. Besides, it is a ward councillor’s duty to attend those meetings as it affords him the opportunity to connect with grass roots issues and complaints. Our previous councillor at one point had three ratepayer bodies in ward 66 and regularly attended their meetings.

When councillor Prinsloo refers to “constrained resources,” we would like to see what allocations are made to the Bluff as regards the budgets of the various units like parks and gardens. We want transparency and accountability. Perhaps then issues like the neglect of Kingfisher Creek could be better understood. Ratepayers want clarity on where their rates are going.
