Ward 64 councillor encourages community to practice ubuntu

"It is important to understand that these are municipal facilities that are not only exclusive to the ward."

WARD 64 councillor, Gavin Hegter has addressed the concerns and frustrations of the residents of Montclair and Woodlands about the occupation and use of the public facilities within ward 64, including parks and sports fields, by people who reside in surrounding areas such as Lamontville, Glebelands Hostel, SJ Smith Hostel and Jacob Hostel.

Hegter, said that although he can understand the resident’s frustration, it is important to understand that these are municipal facilities that are not only exclusive to the ward.

“The fact that the municipality has not been able to correct the injustices of the past, in 25 years, is the reason that the residents of other areas are forced to leave their area and use these facilities. How would the resident feel if they applied to use the Yellowwood Park Civic Hall for a function and they were denied because they do not reside in Yellowwood Park? It is really unfortunate that we do not have suitable facilities throughout all areas of our city, but it is a reality that we have been failed so we need to share what little we have. It is called Ubuntu,” said Hegter
