Wanderers hosts 71st annual Dan Draper bowls compo

The 71st annual Dan Draper bowls competition will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 13 and 14 July,

Saturday, 6 July, saw another round of the men’s club 4s take place at Durban Wanderers with Richard Hendicott, Neville Phillips, Tommy Cloete and Cave James beating Lofty Cawthorne, Jeff Bolt, Dave Matthews and Deon Henrico 25-14.

It was good to see an increase in the number of bowlers playing tabs in as well, with two games of trips taking place. Congratulations are extended to Wonkie Somtseu and Paul White for being nominated to represent the Port Natal under 30s at the inter districts competitions to be held in September. Wonkie was also invited to participate in the Port Natal junior masters at the end of August.

Sunday, 7 July, saw the Port Natal pro 10 pairs begin with Steve van Rooyen and Wonkie Somtseu winning all their games to progress to the next rounds which will be played on Sunday, 14 July. Paul White and Dave le Roux did well, but lost 48-52 to their eventual section winners Dion Audie and Dominique Horn. The 71st annual Dan Draper bowls competition will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 13 and 14 July, with 12 women’s teams and 24 men’s teams being catered for. Friday’s various meat pack winners were: lamb pack – Des Demmer, beef – Debbie Rojas, pork roast – Denis Hearnshaw, beef roast – Jan de Wall, chicken pack – Jean Biljoen, chicken – Chris Fourie. The R600 snowball was won by Rally Reddy. The Friday Lotto was a R490 carry over as no one guessed the correct three numbers drawn.

Samantha’s Kitchen is closed on Mondays but you can order off her extensive menu every other day, contact her on 081-486-7039 for more information. The club’s function rooms – tavern, upstairs and downstairs are now fully renovated and available for hire. The two squash courts also have some unallocated time slots for members and non-members.
