Don’t be scammed by fake fundraiser, warns municipality

Report anyone trying to solicit money for the mayor at your nearest police station.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has issued a statement warning residents of scammers who claim to be fundraising on behalf of Mayor Zandile Gumede.

“It has come to the municipality’s attention that a group of scammers are allegedly randomly approaching people, requesting for donations towards eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede’s legal costs,” stated acting head of communications unit, Mandla Nsele.

He said that the municipality warns residents that the mayor did not ask for such donations and is not part of the scheme. “This is a scam and anyone who is approached by these unscrupulous individuals must report the matter to the nearest police station. The municipality is investigating the allegations,” he added.
