Wentworth Bowling Club bowlers reach PN quarter finals

On Wednesday afternoon, 3 July Margaret Walters will organise the promotion and development bowls from 2pm.

The highlight of a busy week of bowls at Wentworth Bowling Club was the achievement of members, Ben Newton, Luvuyo Ndava and Moses Nuba who reached the quarter finals of the Port Natal bowls men’s trips championship.

Playing for a place in the semi finals, the Wentworth men acquitted themselves well, but lost a hard fought game by one shot. Congratulations are extended to these members as they continue to represent the club with pride. A huge well done is extended to the Wentworth men’s B team whose consistent hard work was rewarded with a league win and a promotion on the league table.

The men’s A team and the women’s team both secured a third spot in their respective leagues. The general performance of Wentworth bowlers augers well for the future achievements of the club. Wednesday’s Grand Rapid Spur any pairs competition saw Kurt and Dawn Spack head the leader board with a commendable four plus 16 score ahead of Julie Sutherland and Amanda Niemand who ended the morning’s play five shots behind the leaders. The second session prize was secured by Brian Smith and Herby Roux. Norman Webster teamed up with Margaret Walters and Johan Nel on Thursday morning, 27 June to secure the top spot on the podium in the Wentworth breakfast trips competition. Brian and Paula Osman and their partner, Phyllis Maritz, took second spot and once again Brian Smith won a second session with his team comprising Robin de Gouveia and Buck Boettiger. In his third attempt for the week Brian teamed up with Rajin Pillay and Helmut Brutti on Friday morning, 28 June to win the first place spoils in the Tomasina’s men’s casual bowls. Graham Bransby, Ron Addinall and Denzil Lewis ended the morning two shots behind in second place. The sportsmen’s prize went to Colin Howes, Robbie Carr and Albert van Niekerk. Sunday’s Grand Rapid Spur Big Jim any pairs competition proved to be a successful morning for the rapidly improving novice bowler, Lew Scrooby who partnered with Johnny ‘Mooiman’ du Plessis and secured top position on the winner’s dais.

The always formidable partnership of Greg Dorrofield and Jorge Santos ended their morning in second spot with Godfrey Addinall and Vic McCreanor claiming the second session prize.
