According to Montclair police spokesperson warrant officer Priscilla Ellapen, on Monday, 10 June, the decomposed body of a 49-year-old man, who has since been identified as Trenton Brown, was found at his Montclair home. “His employer became concerned after he failed to show up for work for a few days. An employee was sent to his home to make enquiries. On his arrival, he found the decomposed body of the man in his house. No foul play is suspected,” she explained.

Ellappen added that a post-mortem was conducted and the deceased’s next of kin has been informed. An inquest docket was also registered for investigation at Montclair SAPS. Upon the disturbing discovery, Trenton’s three dogs found on the premises were taken by the Mazarat Animal Rescue in Waterfall. “The dogs were so thirsty when they came in and were vomiting up bits of plastic and two had very upset stomachs. It appears that they were living off the contents of the trash bag. They have settled in though and seem to be very well adjusted so obviously had lots of affection from the man,” said a volunteer at Mazarat Animal Rescue, who wished to withhold her name.

Trenton’s only son, Damien said that he was taken aback by the news of his father’s passing and the delayed discovery of it. “I work and live in Richards Bay and only found out about the news of my father’s death 10 days after it happened. Looking back now, I do see how this could have happened, as he was a very quiet person who kept to himself most of the time,” he said. Although no foul play is suspected, Damien still awaits the results of the post-mortem which will take about two weeks to arrive due to a back log.
His previous partner and long time friend, Jo-Ann Dolan described Trenton as a kind, soft-hearted and a gentle giant. “He was always willing to help anyone who needed it and was there if anyone needed a shoulder to cry on or someone just to talk to. One of the fondest memories I have is when he bet me that I would not walk to the room in my pink onesie and I did. I will never forget the times I had with him. I miss him terribly and I am still tempted to send messages to him or give him that quick call as I used,” she said emotionally.

Trenton worked in the police flying squad for 20 years before he went into the business of billboard marketing. Damien said that he will forever cherish the memories he has of his father and hopes that everyone who knew him, will remember him as a good and honest man.
