YPPS netball girls shoot for the win

The girls showed true sportsmanship and lived up to the saying that dynamite comes in small packages.

YELLOWWOOD Park Primary School’s (YPPS) U11s and U13s played and conquered against Eden College in an away friendly netball game on Wednesday, 12 June, with both age groups claiming the win for the day.

YPPS U11 Iminathi Nkombi (GA) keeps a close eye on her Eden College opponent.

Home advantage seemed to be non-existent for the U11 Eden College netball girls as they were on the receiving end of a strong defence and attack from YPPS, who maintained a strong presence on the court throughout the game. Iminathi Nkombi, who played the goal attack position, did not let a pass miss her sight, shooting the majority of the goals in the net. The girls showed true sportsmanship and lived up to the saying that dynamite comes in small packages, securing a 9-4 win.

U13 YPPS goal attack player Abonge Dladla swiftly gains possession of the ball.

The U13 YPPS girls played a tougher game against their opponents, losing possession of the ball a few times on the court in the first half. They did, however, pick up the pace in the second half of the match and managed to come out victorious in the end with a final result of 6-4.

U13 Khayakazi Mbambo of YPPS does a quick position change over to allow her teammate Ayanda Zondi to make a strategic pass.

“Our girls have shown great improvement over the past few months. Their passion and commitment has been highly contagious and their hard work has really paid off. They had a bit of a wobbly start, but the girls pulled up their socks, focused and worked hard. The girls played very well in their friendly game against Eden College,” said YPPS netball coach, Simone Du Toit.
