Wentworth soccer star pays it forward

Coming from a humble background has never been an excuse for this ambitious sportsman

AT the age of 17, Wentworth’s very own promising soccer player, Kieron Jacks is already proving himself as a force to be reckoned with in the industry.
Coming from a humble background has never been an excuse for this ambitious sportsman, as he is today a team member of the Cape Town City soccer club. “My journey in soccer has taken me to places I didn’t think I was going to go at a young age. I left home when I was 13 wanting to follow my dreams and since then I’ve barely been at home. It has just been a roller coaster ride for me and I’m enjoying every challenge that comes my way,” he said.

His love for the game began playing on the soccer grounds of Fynnland Sports Club on the Bluff. “When I was four years old, I remember wanting to play so much that I eventually got my parents to sign me up for the junior soccer club at Fynnland and I have been passionate about the sport ever since,” he said. Kieron has played for the U18 Engen Champs of Champs soccer tournament with SuperSport United in 2017, when he was just 15 years old. Another big highlight in his blossoming soccer career was playing in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA Cup) in Mauritius as captain for the U17 South African team.

Kieron is inspired by soccer legend Steven Gerrard, who is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers. “I used to watch him when I was younger and was intrigued by the way he tackles and puts in the work for his team. I wanted to be just as good as he is.”

When he isn’t on the field, Kieron is a teenager like any other and enjoys time off with friends and family. He also helps host soccer clinics for the youth and will be paying his success forward to his very own community as part of the Play Fair Youth Development soccer clinic taking place during 18-20 June at the Ogle Road Wentworth Grounds. “I’m looking forward to being back at home and doing my bit to inspire other young boys and girls who love soccer just as much as I did at their age.”
