Treasure Beach upgrades set in motion

Treasure Beach is an environmentally sensitive area presenting the community with a unique opportunity to drive conservation and environmental tourism attracting more people to the area.

THE long awaited upgrades earmarked for the Treasure Beach parking area located on St Geran Road has finally been set in motion.

This is according to ward 66 councillor JP Prin sloo, who confirmed that on Wednesday 5 June, a site meeting was conducted with the newly appointed architects of Konstrukt Architects as well as the Economic Development, Environmental and Architecture departments to discuss the proposals presented to the community in 2013.

“Treasure Beach is an environmentally sensitive area presenting the community with a unique opportunity to drive conservation and environmental tourism attracting more people to the area,” said JP.

The proposed upgrades would include the following:

  • Upgrading of the existing ablutions and security lighting
  • Refurbishment of parking area and stairway access
  • Fishing clubhouse
  • The positioning of signage at strategic points
  • Construction of new viewing decks and a boardwalk
  • New environmental park at WESSA
  • A proposed new cafe/takeaway facility with deck overlooking the sea
  • Proposed new shaded picnic area
  • Ablution and change room facilities at the beach.

JP added that a feasibility study and architectural designs will be created based on the requirements identified by the community during the consultation process in 2013. Further consultations are being planned with key stakeholders and surrounding community members for when the first phase has been completed, to ensure the success of the project. Engagements are also being conducted between WESSA and the city to ensure that the newly built facility will be used to its full potential.
