Bluff archery champ earns gold

"The toughest part of the competition was shooting at a tournament of that stature for the first time " - Danya Thompson.

BLUFF’s promising archery champ Danya Thompson earned gold in the U13 compound girls category with an impressive score of 554/600, at the Arnold Classic Africa Sports Festival which took place recently in Johannesburg.

Danya said she had an awesome experience at the Arnold Classic and even got to see Arnold Schwarzenegger himself at the tournament. “The toughest part of the competition was shooting at a tournament of that stature for the first time as well as not knowing what to anticipate. I draw my inspiration from my coach as well as the likes of Wesley Gates and other archers.”

She currently has colours for International Field Archery Association (IFAA) and her next goal is working towards her national colours for World Archery. Her coach is keen on her looking at other international tournaments, however her next event is in July. She has taken a short break in her shooting as she is in the middle of grade 6 exams at Brighton Beach Primary, but she still practices most nights at home.
