Uniting youth through music

"Through this event, we are encouraging the youth in our community to come together in an effort to address social challenges" - event organiser.

THE youth of Yellowwood Park (YWP) have come together to empower and motivate young teens through a music and arts event, Youthville Nation taking place on Saturday, 15 June at the YWP Civic Hall.

One of the organisers, Wandile Kunene, said that the motivation behind the birth of this event was the lack of support for the youth in the various issues that concern them most. “Through this event, we are encouraging the youth in our community to come together in an effort to address social challenges and provide support through an uplifting means that many will relate to and enjoy – a music event,” he said.

All youth from different walks of life are invited to the event. “We want to prove that even in the trying times that see youth severely challenged by youth unemployment, substance abuse, crime and financial constraints, we can counter that by coming together and tackling these issues head-on. Music and arts is a great way to express oneself and that is why we believe in this initiative so much. It is often said that the youth is the future, this way we are saying let us come together and show the nation that we have what it takes,” said co-organiser Luyanda Ngcobo.
