Montclair SAPS crime round up

The men and women in blue of Montclair SAPS have been working around the clock to protect and serve their community.

House robbery

On Wednesday, 15 May at about 12pm, a resident was seated in his house on Warbler Way in Yellowwood Park, when three unknown men stormed into the house and pointed a firearm at him. According to Montclair police spokesman Captain Dereck Vijiam, he was instructed by the men to lay down on the floor while two of the suspects rummaged through other rooms where they found the father of the first victim. They forced him to lay down next to his son in the dining room. One of the attackers was wearing a balaclava. They demanded for vehicles keys, however, there were no cars on the property. They took electronic equipment and fled on foot.

Carjacking

On Saturday, 18 May at about 3.30pm a victim was stationary at the traffic lights on South Coast Road in Clairwood, when a gold coloured VW Polo arrived and parked alongside his vehicle. “One of the unknown men immediately alighted from their vehicle and pointed a firearm at the victim. The victim was ordered out of his vehicle, a blue Polo. Once the victim stepped out the driver’s seat two other men came around and got into his vehicle. They fled the scene by driving off at high speed. The victim was left stranded as his cell phone was taken with his vehicle,” explained Vijiam.

Carjacking

On Saturday, 18 April at about 3pm a complainant and his friend were travelling in a Silver grey Palio on South Coast Road in Clairwood towards Grimsby Road when they were overtaken by a Quantum which blocked their path of travel. “One of the occupants of the quantum alighted and approached the driver and questioned him as to why he was driving recklessly. He thereafter took out a firearm, which was kept close to his ankle, and pointed it towards the driver and his friend. Both were instructed to get out of their vehicle. The suspect jumped into the vehicle. The suspect drove off at about 150 meters thereafter losing control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree,” said Vijiam. The complainant stopped a police vehicle which was driving past and alerted them. The police arrived on the scene, with the complainant to find the suspect injured and lying next to the damaged vehicle.
