Bluff pensioner suffers trauma and loss in hijacking

She was forcibly removed from her vehicle and thrown to the ground

CRIME has reached critical levels in South Africa and law-abiding citizens have to endure pain, degradation and humiliation as they are forced into submission as their homes are ransacked and vehicles hijacked with brazen audacity.

A local Bluff pensioner, who requested to withhold her name, was the recent victim of a hijacking that left her physically and psychologically traumatised on Wednesday, 15 May.

While collecting her laundry from her local laundromat, she was approached by a man who appeared to be car-guard at the car park. “It was seconds after a brief conversation with him that three other men  appeared and the next thing I knew I was forcibly removed from my vehicle, thrown to the ground, followed by my blankets that I had just gotten washed and then the car sped off,” she said, still very much in shock and disbelief.
Community members came to her aid and called Brighton Beach police to report the matter. It was thanks to their swift response and commitment to the case that they were able to recover her vehicle that was found at a nearby hostel still in good condition however without her handbag. “I had everything in that bag, from my glasses, ID, SASSA and medical cards, drivers licence as well as my purse that had money, bank cards and other useful cards. That has been the hardest part of trying to move on from this ordeal – trying to get round my daily activities without all these essentials,” she said.

Apart from suffering bruising, the pensioner is also due for a knee operation soon and she will need to have her medical cards by then. She appeals to the Bluff public to help find her handbag. It is slightly larger yet very similar to the one held in the picture above. Should anyone have it, they can call 082-358-3168 or contact detective sergeant Grobler from Brighton Beach police on 031-451-8060.
