THE ladies of Mowat Park High School celebrated Africa Day in a special assembly held at the school on Tuesday, 21 May. The ladies dressed up in different attires and recited special African proverbs, prayers and poems inspired by the rich history and the diversity of cultures of Africa. Africa Day is intended to celebrate and acknowledge the successes of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU now the AU) from the time it was created back in 25 May 1963, in the fight against colonialism and apartheid, as well as the progress that Africa has made, while reflecting upon the common challenges that the continent face in a global environment.
