According to Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), this has impacted the receiving of trucks and landside operations. “Waterside operations are not currently affected although the blockade may cause further delays to the receiving of export containers which could have a knock-on effect. The executives of TPT are currently working closely with all parties involved and a confirmed meeting with the protesting truckers is planned for this afternoon,” said Dean Moodley, TPT acting general manager for KZN Containers.

“Truckers are an integral part of the movement of goods in South Africa and while we are aware of the challenges they have been raising since February this year, Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) condemns any acts that disrupt economic activity and threatens jobs,” said Moodley.

In a meeting held with some industry bodies where all harbour carriers were represented two weeks ago – TPT committed to a six-week period ending June 3, 2019 to make improvements in truck staging times with an intention to reduce delays.

It would be TPT’s appeal to bodies not represented in sitting industry bodies to please come forward, engage and gain access to working plans currently being observed.
