TACKLES and scrums were the order of the day as Durban Academy hosted Hoêrskool Suid-Natal to five rugby fixtures on Saturday, 11 May.

The big boys of Suid-Natal proved to be the day’s overall champions, claiming victory in all five fixtures in the different age groups teams from both Durban Academy and Grosvenor Boys High School.

Wiaan Potgieter of Suid-Natal U16 boys team has his eye on the ball as he receives an out-line pass.

An optimistic Durban Academy sports coordinator, Naseed Abrahams, said: “Playing Suid-Natal is always tough as they are always well coached and are always physically bigger than our boys. However, I feel that all teams have improved and are playing good rugby. I am really proud that as the Bluff schools we have so many committed and disciplined boys playing well. The performance of the day came from Grosvenor 1st team. It was a huge improvement from their previous performances and they really defended well from a very imposing 2nd team. Lastly, we would like to thank all the referees and medical staff, without them the boys would not be able to enjoy this wonderful game.”

Receiving a line-out pass is Donavon Dauth of Grosvenor Boys U16 team.
