It has also been reported that water has reached the N2 and drivers and residents are urged to exercise extra caution in the area.

Residents of Woodlands, near Yellowwood Park, woke up to the sounds of gushing water after a reservoir in the area broke during the early hours of today (Saturday,  4 May).

According to the Fire Chief on scene, it is believed there is between 30 to 40 million litres of water in that reservoir.

When the side of the reservoir situated at the water department depot in Alemein Ave broke,  the water was released at once causing the banks to collapse. According to reports from the scene, the bank is still collapsing.

Police and paramedics were on scene and there were no reports of injuries but the dog on the premises of GR Plant Hire, which is behind the service station on Higginson Highway, is missing.

GR Plant Hire has incurred billions of damage.  It has also been reported that water has reached the N2 and drivers and residents are urged to exercise extra caution in the area.

The cause of the damage is still unknown.  Ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter is currently on the scene.  This is a developing story.
