Montclair Samaritans pay off Bark Angel’s vet bill

The non-profit organisation, occasionally falls on tough times and the month of April was their toughest yet, with little to no food at their donations bin at Bluff Spar for weeks.

THE heartfelt prayers and pleas of Bluff-based dog rescue and rehabilitation team, Bark Angel, were answered when a Montclair couple blessed them by paying off their hefty vet bill.

Tracey and her husband Michael Glazer from Montclair recently came across a Facebook post by Bark Angel with appeals to the community to assist them in their ongoing mission to care for abandoned and injured dogs, with food donations and contributions towards their vet bill. Tracey who is a self-confessed animal lover said that the post tore at her heartstrings and felt she had to do something to help this dedicated team.

“I saw the post last week and called my husband immediately, who was abroad at the time, to help me come up with a way to help Bark Angel. We put our heads together and decided to pay-off their entire vet bill of R 12 781,20. It breaks my heart to see precious and innocent animals injured or mistreated and the work done by Debbie Moss and her team to help combat that, is an initiative that is close to my heart and one that must go on despite the odds,” she said.

Tears of joy flowed down the faces of Bark Angel founder Debbie Moss and finance manager Heather Barclay upon receiving the receipt which was handed over by the couple. “Tracey and Michael are godsend. Our vet bill is an ongoing struggle and we didn’t really have a plan as to how we were going to pay it off this time. Words cannot describe how grateful we are to them,” said an emotional Debbie.

The non-profit organisation, occasionally falls on tough times and the month of April was their toughest yet, with little to no food at their donations bin at Bluff Spar for weeks. “We are running short on the little funds we have at the moment. Every little food and monetary donation goes a long way in making sure we never let any doggie down without food,” said Debbie.
Before Bark Angel was formed, Debbie used to go around feeding and helping care for dogs around the disadvantaged areas of Clairwood. It wasn’t long until she started receiving donations of dog food from community members and friends who supported the work she was doing. After taking in her first puppy, Bark Angel was formed.

One is welcomed by warm embraces from Debbie’s fluffy babies upon arrival at Bark Angel, which is also her home on the Bluff. The NPO feeds, treats for ticks and fleas, spays, inoculates, rescues and re-homes abused and abandoned dogs and puppies in the greater Bluff and Clairwood area.

“I don’t go home from work, sometimes it’s a madhouse but I couldn’t be happier. We feed about 120 dogs in Clairwood, the 20 I keep at home as well as other dogs in the Bluff to assist families who can’t afford to. None of this is possible without the help of the general public, from the food donations, monetary contributions, support from Montclair Animal Hospital and those spreading the word on the work we do, it all goes a long way in helping us keep our dear angels happy and healthy,” said Debbie.
