Mowat Park pupil pivots towards netball dreams

Siphosethu is also the school's U17 netball team's captain.

MOWAT Park High School’s netball star Siphosethu Mazibuko (16) recently made her school proud when she qualified for the Umlazi District team which will go on to play against other local district teams for a spot in the KZN provincial team.

“I started playing netball since I was in Grade 4 back in primary school and fell in love with the game as soon as my pink takkies hit the court. I am very nervous for the provincial trials as I have only ever made it to district trials, so finally being chosen to be part of the district team is a big deal for me as well as for Mowat Park High School,” said the netball enthusiast who looks forward to representing her school.

Siphosethu is also the school’s U17 netball team’s captain and regards her father as one of her biggest supporters as he makes it a point to attend as many of her matches as possible. Siphosethu is inspired by the likes of Bongi Msomi,  a South African netball player who is known for playing in the positions of centre and wing attack. “Bongi has played for KwaZulu-Natal Kingdom Stars and other netball teams abroad as well as gone a step further to host netball skills workshops back in South Africa to impart the netball skills she has learnt upon local youth. That’s something I’d really love to accomplish myself one day,” said Siphosethu.

The school’s sports coordinator, Shanel Sear said that Siphosethu is a very talented and promising netball player and undoubtedly one of the best at the school.
