Stomp your sugar cravings

Find out what happens to your body when you consume too much sugar.

Have you ever wondered what happens when you experience a sugar high or rush?

Well, your body will act the same way as if you were high on cocaine. Sugar causes a surge of feel-good chemicals in your brain, dopamine and serotonin. The same chemicals released when consuming cocaine. Also, both are highly addictive the more you have, the more you want.

Your insulin spikes up to regulate your blood sugar. As you know, insulin which is produced in the pancreas, absorbs the excess glucose from your sugar binge and tries to regulate your blood sugar.

And like a slide, the high that you feel suddenly comes crashing down. Once the insulin engine finishes it’s job, you are now falling into a major sugar crash. That high becomes a low. There is a drastic drop and you feel drained.

But are there alternatives to stomp the cravings? YES!

Dark chocolate: Just a small portion of this antioxidant-filled treat satisfies a sweet tooth.

Trail mix and yogurt: Mix these together and you will get a low in sugar snack to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Raw, organic honey: Nature’s source of sugar but the good kind. In small doses, honey is the best craving buster.

WATCH: Why it’s hard to resist sugar.
