Bluff tourism team calls for partnerships with local businesses

Sodurba calls for the support and the joint effort of local organisations and business within the tourism industry to work together in making the Sodurba region bigger and better.

IT’S all systems go as Sodurba South Durban Tourism and ward 66 councillor JP Prinsloo unveiled plans to revitalise local tourism.
Sodurba hosted a meeting for stakeholders and community members recently to proactively engage on the role of tourism, improving the quality of local tourism, increasing access to transport and information to visitors and locals, regulating local businesses as well as how concerned groups can work together for the greater good of the environment.
The tourism organisation calls for support and the joint effort of other local organisations and business within the tourism industry to work together in making the Sodurba region both a city attraction and a hub for economic productivity that benefits its local communities.

Prinsloo highlighted the importance of partnerships with other organisations, businesses and community members to rehabilitate and publicise the many areas of interest and facilities available. “The goal is to stand out from other community tourism organisations by working together, tackling relevant issues and increasing community engagement using the technology we have at our disposal,” he explained.
Prinsloo added that in keeping with his development projects throughout the ward, which include beach upgrades and Van Riebeeck Conservation and Recreation Park, he will put together a public survey on the Bluff Community Noticeboard Facebook page, to find out what the greater public believes should be developed for their greater good.

Sodurba chairman, Helga du Preez shared with attendees the news that Sodurba has applied for accreditation of the Bluff as a whale heritage site at World Cetacean Alliance (WCA). It is awaiting the outcome of its application. The WCA is an international organisation whose main purpose is to conserve and protect cetaceans and their habitats.

“This application is a big deal not only for us as a community tourism organisation, as having it approved by the WCA would really put the area on the map as there is no other area in the country which has been accredited by the WCA as a whale heritage site. The Bluff has a rich history and heritage of whales, including the Old Whaling Station, Welcoming of the Whales Festival as well as the many whale viewpoints, making it ideal to be internationally recognised and protected,” she said.
