There’s more to green melons than meets the eye

This delicious fruit will keep you fresh, fit and healthy this summer.

The green melon, known as honeydew melon, packs a punch of nutritional benefits that leaves you no choice but to include this delicious fruit into your diet.

Serving Joy shared these nine health benefits to be reaped from this fruit this summer

1. Stronger bones and teeth: This fruit has a notably high calcium content, which along with a balanced diet, will promote strong bones and teeth.

2. Promotes weight loss: Being high in fiber, honeydew melon promotes healthy digestion and regular bowel movement. This fruit is also low in calories.

3. Curbs hypertension: Honeydew melon’s high potassium content prevents high blood pressure and it’s effects.

4. Hydrates the body: Hydrating the body on a cellular level, this fruit is not only 90 per cent water,  but also high in potassium so maintains healthy water levels in the body.

5. Nourishes the skin: This fruit is high in Vitamin C, which regulates and heightens collagen production in the body, leading to young-looking, plump, glowing, hydrated skin.

6. Promotes overall eye-health: Some of the most needed phytonutrients needed by the eyes are lutein and zeaxanthin, both are found in decent amounts in this fruit. These nutrients work to strengthen vision and reduce the risks of eye-related disorders, such as cataracts, macular degeneration or age-related degeneration among other things.

7. Prevents and even treats diabetes: This fruit has a notably low glucose amount, despite its natural sweetness, which makes it a great thing to snack on if feeling like something sweet.

8. Boosts immune system: High in Vitamin C, this melon will enable your body to fight off irregular bacterial build-up, excess fat development and illnesses on its own.

9.  Recommended for pregnant women: During pregnancy your body needs an excess of vitamins and minerals, and this is just what honeydew melon can provide. High in potassium it keeps a healthy heart condition and vitamin C keeps the immune system fighting off threats.
