Police seize cocaine and heroine during Wentworth patrol

The accused, aged 22, was arrested and charged for dealing in rock cocaine and heroin as well as for being in possession of drugs.

ROCK cocaine and heroin were seized by members of the Wentworth Police Vispol Unit during a recent patrol in the Wentworth area.

Members of the Wentworth Police Vispol Unit were patrolling the Wentworth area on Friday, 5 April, when they spotted a silver VW vehicle parked on Woodville Road next to a red container.

According to communications officer, Captain Mbuso Gumede there were two occupants who were asleep inside the vehicle. “The members knocked on the windows to get their attention and the men were searched by the police. One of the officers found a clear plastic packet, containing blue and white capsules with red stripes suspected to be heroin, on one of the suspects,” said Gumede.

The search also lead to the recovery of cash amounting to R192 suspected to be proceeds from the sale of drugs. “The other man was searched but nothing illegal was found on him. The accused was then taken to Wentworth SAPS and was searched again. More drugs were found under his t-shirt where the accused hid two clear resealable plastic bags. One bag contained 16 grey plastic wrappings, each containing a substance in the form of rock cocaine, and the other packet contained 12 small clear plastic wrappings also containing a substance in a form of rock cocaine,” explained Gumede.

The accused, aged 22-years-old, was arrested and charged for dealing in rock cocaine and heroin as well as for the possession of illegal drugs. The accused appeared in the Wentworth Court on Monday, 8 April and was released R 2500 bail. The accused will re-appear on 2 July 2019 in the Wentworth Court.

Wentworth Polices’ Captain Lynton Houston would like to send a strong warning to those who are in possession or dealing in drugs. “An intelligence-driven operation will be conducted and it will be dealt with strictly and the court will not be lenient on criminals when passing sentences. Drugs are destroying our community especially the youth and also warn the youth not to involve themselves in drugs and ending up getting criminal records. Once you get criminal record its difficult to get employment,” Houston said.
