Help support Cyclone Idai victims with donations

Locals of Yellowood Park, Montclair and Clairwood are urged to donate essentials in an effort to extend a helping hand to those displaced and traumatised by Cyclone Idai.

MONTCLAIR resident, Cerrie-Ann Gunn, is part of a larger group effort that has teamed up with Ajay Ramlall to start a drive aimed at collecting much-needed essentials and supplies to assist those who have been robbed of close to everything in the aftermath of the cyclone.

News reports of the fatal havoc wrecked by Cyclone Idai into Beira, Mozambique on March 14, revealed that information on the natural disaster not only flooded people’s news feeds, but also compelled many to lend a helping hand to the many who have been directly affected by this ordeal.

Ajay Ramlall and Cerrie-Ann Gunn are appealing to local residents to donate water, non-perishable foods, sanitary towels, toiletries and clothing in a suitable condition.

“When we heard about the tragedy at Mozambique, myself and a few locals felt compelled to start a food and water drive called KZN Water and Food Drive for Mozambique Victims. We basically went around asking people to donate non-perishable essentials, clothing and blankets. In the last three weeks, the initiative has grown beyond our expectations with loads of parcels of goods and essentials being received at our different drop-off zones. We’ve managed to fill a six metre container in every nook and cranny,” said Ajay.
Ajay added that there has been in contact with rescue teams in Mozambique in efforts to determine the kind of assistance needed by victims and help where they can. Cerrie-Ann is appealing to the locals of Yellowood Park, Montclair and Clairwood to donate water, non-perishable foods, sanitary towels, toiletries and clothing in a suitable condition, in an effort to extend a helping hand to those displaced and traumatised by Cyclone Idai.
