VIDEO: Why do paper cuts hurt so much

Your fingertips have more nerve endings than any other part of your body.

You can get stabbed, cut or hit but there is no worse pain than a paper cut.

But why does this little hairline cut hurt so much, why does it feel like your whole finger is on fire from such a tiny injury?

First we look at location. Papercuts usually occur on our fingers; according to Dr. Hayley Goldbach, a resident physician in dermatology at UCLA fingertips have more nerve endings than any other part of your body.

IF you have to zoom in on paper, you’d find that paper is more akin to a saw than to a blade. So when a paper cut opens your skin, it leaves behind a chaotic path of destruction rather than a smooth laceration. It rips, tears, and shreds your skin, rather than making clean slice, as a razor or knife blade would do.
