Montclair to benefit from speed calming

Ward 64 is set to reap the rewards from the construction of pavements and speed calming.

WARD 64 is set to reap the rewards from the construction of pavements and speed calming measures in Montclair and Woodlands. Ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter said the installation of kerbs and sidewalks commenced recently and is progressing well at Nagle Square in Woodlands.

The installation of kerbing and sidewalks is in progress at Nagle Square in Woodlands.

He said these will be installed on a number of roads to ensure pedestrian safety. Long-awaited speed humps have also recently been installed in Montclair’s Langton and Verity roads. “Many more roads will be getting speed humps soon, to reduce vehicle speed in residential areas and promote safety. Due to the lawlessness on our roads, speed calming has become more necessary. After trying for the past two years, we are finally in the process of getting speed humps installed on some of the ward’s problematic roads. In addition to this, I have been able to secure funding for a number of sidewalks to be installed to improve pedestrian safety. The absence of weed spraying contracts in the city means the weeds in the gutters and on our pavements has gotten out of hand. Fortunately, the parks department has now agreed to use overtime for their staff to attend to this,” he said.
