Lower uric acid levels with these eight fruits

If you are concerned about your uric acid levels being too high, eat more of these eight (delicious) fruits.

The natural breaking down of cells when they die produces uric acid, which is processed by the kidneys and flushed out of the body along with the urine.

However, if the levels of uric acid in the body are too high, it begins to form crystals which in turn cause painful conditions like gout or kidney stones. If you are concerned about your uric acid levels, read about the eight fruits below that you can eat to assist in lowering it.

1. Citrus fruit

Citrus fruit such as lemons, limes, and oranges contain high levels of citric acid and vitamin C, both of which help lower uric acid.

2. Apples

Apples contain malic acid, which is believed to break down uric acid and flush it from the body. Adding an apple a day to your diet may help lower your uric acid levels over time (and keep the doctor away).

3. Blueberries

Blueberries contain high amounts of bioflavonoids, which assist with lowering uric acid in the body. Bioflavonoids also have a host of other benefits, some of which include supporting healthy skin and eyes.

4. Cherries

Cherries also contain a lot of bioflavonoids. Studies show that these are one of the best fruits to eat to lowering uric acid levels.

5. Cranberries

Cranberries also contain high levels of bioflavonoids and will no doubt assist in combatting high uric acid levels. These are also vital in supporting a healthy urinary tract, which can help prevent uric acid from forming kidney stones.

6. Strawberries

Like blueberries, cherries and cranberries, strawberries also contain bioflavonoids to lower uric acid. However, these bioflavonoids in strawberries can also help fight inflammation and prevent the breakdown of collagen.

7. Olives

Eating olives or using extra-virgin olive oil in your cooking assists in reducing uric acid. Olives are a natural anti-inflammatory and contain high amounts of vitamin E, which has been suggested to lower uric acid.
