Plucky Palesa takes the plunge
Palesa Motlokoa makes it a point to celebrate life in a big way
VAN Riebeeck Park Primary School’s Palesa Motlokoa makes it a point to celebrate life in a big way, as shown by her decision to take the plunge on the Big Rush Swing at Moses Mabhida Stadium for her 11th birthday.
Named the world’s tallest swing by the Guinness Book of Records since 14 May 2011, the Big Rush Big Swing is not your average swing, as it allows you to freefall for 80 metres and then take the thrilling swing out into a massive 220m arc where you soar into the centre of the impressive soccer stadium. With the makings of an adrenaline junkie, Palesa finds thrill in the rush of such activities. Last year, she was enthralled by a skydiving experience to mark her 10th birthday.
“I love the sense of danger, the speed when you are freefalling and the silence when you stop falling. Being adventurous helps me a lot in life. It gives me confidence and determination which allows me to achieve the goals I set in life, at home and at school. It’s great to be able to face any fears you have and then to beat them. It gives you such a sense of achievement and pride in yourself. It also helps you appreciate life and realise how fortunate one is to be alive and happy,” she said.
Young Palesa finds herself excited at pursuing more adrenaline pumping challenges and looks forward to tackling a bungee jump off the Storms River bridge or hang-gliding next year.
