Help church feed hungry Wentworth pupils

It could also be their only meal for the day

A WENTWORTH church is reaching out to the community to help them provide lunches for underprivileged children at six local primary schools.
Kerry-Ann Hughes, who started the outreach programme at King Jesus Ministries, said they have identified the schools and the relevant needy pupils.
Having conducted many outreaches, she realised the plight of local children.
Many have no food to eat due to their parents being unemployed, while others have parents who are alcoholics and drug addicts.
“I contacted each school to find out how many children in each require lunch. We established that five schools need assistance on certain days and one school is fed every day of the week. From there we drew up an estimated budget of how much it would cost. Our church, though small in capacity, has a huge heart, but the finances are small as well,” she said.

She invites the community to be part of the outreach through financial assistance or donations of bread and polony, for example.
“Not only are you feeding a child each day, you are also assisting them in their education. By having lunch each day they can concentrate on their school work and excel. They can be happy and healthy and your contribution also gives them hope in their dire situation. It could also be their only meal for the day,” she added.
