Gardeners receive tips to make anthuriums shine
All members are reminded that subscriptions fees are now due.
NATALIA Garden Club’s president Karolina opened the first meeting of the year with a prayer and big welcome to all members and new members Noel and Beryl Povall.
Visitor Pieter du Plessis was also welcomed.
Special thoughts and prayers were extended to family and friends of faithful member Russell Jones who died in December and to members Nora Brown and Yusimi Zayas who were not well.
The minutes were signed as read and there was no correspondence. New treasurer Lynne Gillman read the finance report and reminded all members that subscriptions fees are now due. The AGM takes place at the March meeting and the committee requires two new members to replace Russell Jones and Rita Ndlovu.
The usual door and raffle prizes were drawn and won by Noel Povall and Yusimi Zayas respectively. Know your plant was given by Alma Botha who informed members about the grewia plant. Competition judge Margaret Everett said the pot plants were beautiful. She also advised members to clean the anthurium flower with milk for shows to make it shine and to display a younger flower.
After a delicious assortment of refreshments, CROW’s experts on birds Sue Ann and Lana gave a most interesting talk on garden birds using visual aids.
President Karolina concluded the meeting with a blessing prayer for all. The club’s next meeting will be held on Thursday, 14 March at the Pigeon Club, Tara Road at 9.30am. Visitors and new members are most welcome.
