Quins RC uses youth rugby to build skills

Rugby games start on 7 April.

YOUTH from Bluff and surrounding areas have been given the great opportunity to be part of the Harlequins Youth Rugby team.
The rugby season already started on 18 February and the team practises every Monday and Wednesday.

As rugby is a good way to develop motor skills, a few dads who wanted to develop the skills of boys and later girls in a fun and controlled environment kicked off the youth club. “Rugby is a great game which is played across the world. We teach the boys to work as a team, to use each other, to know at any point where their teammates are. Rugby builds confidence and the boys make new friends. It teaches them respect and teaches them winning is important but having fun is more important,” said coach and dad, Pierre Smuts.
Participation in sports outside of schools, such as rugby, encourages friendship with a broader-based network.
Rugby games start on 7 April.
“Rugby is used as a stepping stone to introduce community interaction from a young age while learning skills and gaining confidence. Although practise has already started, there is still space for your boy,” he added.
