“Ningizimu Special School is affiliated with Special Olympics, which has a variety of sporting codes catered for children with special needs as a means to bridge the gap that tends to separate them from other children. From 2017 our ladies soccer team has competed with other schools in different clusters provincially. Eight of our girls managed to successfully compete at national level and have been afforded the opportunity to travel to Abu Dhabi for Special Olympics World Games 2019. The fact that pupils from our school are not only now representing Ningizimu Special School but also South Africa is very touching. I personally have never been overseas and to see that my children have made the most of such a unique life opportunity, truly warms my heart,” said school principal Zethu Mkhwanazi.
