Cherished school staff wished well in retirement

Mowat Park High bid farewell to two of their staff members.

After having dedicated most of their years to serving Mowat Park High School with a smile, head caretaker Felokwakhe Sawoni and cleaner Musawenkosi Ndlovu bid farewell as they opened a new life chapter of retirement, during the school’s Founder’s Day held on Friday, 22 February.

During their tenure spent at the school, Sawoni and Ndlovu not only got to cement what is now a lifelong brotherhood but also found a home away from home at the Montclair school.

Having experienced a difficult upbringing and endured several challenges during apartheid, Sawoni said he finally found peace, a decent job and a family that respects him at Mowat Park. “I have seen the school change and develop throughout the 41 years I have been here. I loved my job and will miss carrying around my big bunch of keys. However, I do look forward to going into the poultry business and starting my own chicken livestock business,” said Sawoni.

Sawoni considers Ndlovu a great friend, as well as a wise man of few words. Ndlovu was part of the Mowat Park family for 36 years and he valued his decades at the school. “It gives me great pleasure to be able to say I was part of such a great school. My colleagues and I have worked as a team and the school values and respects each and every individual, irrespective of their position or role,” he said.

Principal Nkosinathi Tsaulwayo said the two have left big shoes to fill and although it is sad to see them leave, the school wishes them well in their new endeavours and hopes they enjoy a well-deserved break.
