Explore Umkomaas valley at Saturday’s birding bash

The morning aims to promote birding and nature, as a precursor to the launch of the Sapphire Coast Birding Route in the near future.

BIRDING enthusiasts are invited to flock to the first ever Umkomaas Valley Birding Bash which takes flight this Saturday, 23 February.

The morning aims to promote birding and nature, as a precursor to the launch of the Sapphire Coast Birding Route in the near future.

The valley, which is filled with breath-taking scenery, is home to some amazing species of bird including the gorgeous bushshrike, mountain wagtail, brimstone canary, black-chested snake eagle, jackal buzzard and many more.

Those keen to attend the birding morning are to meet at the Shell Ultra City South Coast (southbound) at 5.30am, to make the most of the early morning bird action. The valley is drivable in most 2×4 vehicles with a decent height clearance.

Organisers have limited spaces available in some 4×4 vehicles. Although there is no cost to the outing, if anyone want to join in on one of the 4×4 vehicles, organisers ask that they contribute to the driver’s petrol costs. Take along snacks and cooldrinks you may need for the morning. The outing will finish at around noon.

RSVP via Whatsapp on 061-485-3625 so that organisers get an idea of numbers taking part, and so that they can communicate necessary arrangements.
