Think outside the box in support of Toti SPCA

This is one of the creative opportunities for businesses to promote themselves and build their reputation, while also doing their part for the community they exist within.

Local businesses are urged to think expansively in their support of Amanzimtoti SPCA, by offering assistance beyond the usual donations of pet food or cash.

The shelter explained there are many creative approaches to donate towards the SPCA in which businesses can also promote themselves, all in the name of animal welfare.

Toti SPCA’s Michelle Hannan explained that the shelter received a donation of a bicycle. “It was in fair condition but a really good brand,” she said. Instead of selling the bicycle as it was, Michelle sought assistance from a local business, for a mutually beneficial outcome.

“I decided to approach a local business to see if they would donate repairs, so we could sell the bike for a better price to raise money for the shelter,” she said. “South Coast Cycles’ Lynne Smith was more than happy to help. She has also agreed to sell the bike in her shop and the whole R1,000 will come to the Toti SPCA.”

This is one of the creative opportunities for businesses to promote themselves and build their reputation, while also doing their part for the community they exist within.

Michelle said people often forget they can put their skills and talents to use in helping the SPCA, instead of donating cash.

The shelter welcomes items and vouchers to raffle from businesses, and these donations allow businesses to receive publicity while assisting a great cause.

Michelle reminded businesses that they can also assist by displaying a Toti SPCA collection tin in their store or residents could even have one in their home to gather seemingly-meaningless small change. “This brings in much needed funds and is so easy to do. If they want one for their business they can call us (031-904-2424/5) and we can drop one off, otherwise they can collect at our premises at 1 Nyati Road, Athlone Park,” she said.

Businesses (or individuals) can also take up sponsorship of a kennel. “For only R100 a month you will have a plaque on a kennels with your business logo or a message. This money helps us maintain our kennels and it a very cheap way to advertise,” said Michelle.

Toti SPCA thanks Lynne Smith and Nickolis Roelofse of South Coast Cycles for renovating the Avalanche bicycle into a trick bike. The bike is on sale at shop 4, 85 Kingsway, Warner Beach.
